In contemporary society, the duration required for individuals to traverse space has been significantly reduced, leading to a phenomenon known as 'time-space compression.' This concept, introduced by the renowned American neo-Marxist David Harvey in his seminal work The Condition of Postmodernity, seeks to illustrate that 'the history of capitalism is marked by an acceleration in the rhythm of life while simultaneously overcoming spatial barriers, resulting in a world that often seems to be collapsing inward upon us.' Artists are now confronted with new challenges and anxieties regarding their perception and expression of time and space. The rich spatial philosophy originating from ancient Greece persists today, shaping our understanding of time into increasingly geometric, abstract, and quantitative frameworks influenced by earlier thinkers. Consequently, there is an endeavor to elucidate the intrinsic nature of time and space itself. German artist Eberhard Ross immerses viewers in the 'Heterotopia' he meticulously crafts through his delicate brushwork and minimalist aesthetic. When confronted with his artwork, viewers experience a transformation in their sense of time as it yields to novel experiences; this 'spiritual aura' emanating from creation beckons us inwardly while prompting introspection.
In his essay "On Some Motifs in Baudelaire," Benjamin articulated: "Experience of the aura thus arises from the fact that a response characteristic of human relationships is transposed to the relation."
